In 1997, the Cintec Group and ten municipalities of the San Salvador Metropolitan area founded MIDES S.E.M. de C.V., a joint venture society, for the implementation of an integrated solid waste management project in the region. The Cintec Group operated this project from 1997 to 2004.
Project Description:
· Integrated waste management program;
· Closure of Mariona’s former dumpsite;
· Implementation of social integration programs for scavengers of the former dumpsite;
· Implementation of an awareness program for the population;
· Construction and operation of an engineered landfill site in Nejapa;
· Conception and design of a transfer and sorting station;
· Construction and operation of a medical waste treatment center.
