Context

Some sectors of industrial activity lead to the production of non biodegradable toxic residues. PCBs in storage or still existing in electrical equipment are a constant threat. Soil contamination has restricted the use of industrial, commercial and residential land. There is increasing environmental pressure to eliminate or treat these hazardous wastes.

The Cintec Group undertook this challenge by carrying out an important contract for the Minister of Environment of Quebec in the late 90’s, ensuring the treatment and elimination of over 25,000 metric tons of PBC contaminated material. Its Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustor (CFBC) use in this project proved to be a performing and reliable technology that makes it possible to respect the current standards.

To decontaminate electrical equipments, the Cintec Group operated a treatment center in Eastern Quebec, Canada, from January 1996 to November 2001. During this period, near 7 millions kg of material have been decontaminated. It was a process of extracting PCBs in autoclaves using a solvent.
